A nice routine

We have settled in to a nice routine around here. The spring is a difficult time in the Pacific Northwest. You never know when it will be nice and when it will rain and therefore you are constantly trying to match your work to the weather. This year our weather has been unseasonably warm and dry and we have been busy planting, weeding, and watering since April.

We are keeping up nicely on the work to be done. Each week I make a list of what needs to be accomplished and I organize it by day. We finish our morning chores, have breakfast, and then do our devotions. Then we head outside and weed for 30 minutes which is followed by 90 minutes for a project. Projects include adding compost to garden areas, fencing, cleaning outside, and moving animals. Then we are back inside for school, lunch, and more school.

We are starting to plant the last of the garden. We have 3 acres of wheat and 1/2 an acre of field corn planted. We have a new bee hive that seems to be doing great and is building comb. We can't wait to get some more. The last goat kidded, but we have been suffering lots of poultry losses. I have two more fields to till and a big area to fence for the cattle and horses for the summer.

In the house we continue to make cheese and butter and bake bread. We fill the pantry with baked goods on Thursdays and are learning more about sourdough. We lacto ferment and culture as we can. I have a small amount of rhubarb to put up and hopefully more to come.
